John joined Beaird Harris in 2012 and has been a practicing advisor in the industry since 1999. John specializes in investment research, retirement income planning and helping clients achieve their financial goals. He co-founded a fee-only investment advisory firm in 2006 and has been an advocate of our passive, structured approach to investment management since that time. He firmly believes the key to long term success is focusing on the factors that we can control and not getting distracted by those we can’t.

John has been citied in multiple industry publications and teaches select seminars to M.B.A. students at Southern Methodist University regarding the basics of personal finance. He founded a local non-profit organization and has been volunteering with Dallas County Divert Court helping those with substance abuse issues since 2007. He is also proud of his accomplishments as an Eagle Scout, marathoner, and Ironman.

John graduated with a BS from Texas A&M University’s School of Engineering in 1999 and has since earned two masters degrees.  His first was an M.B.A. from Southern Methodist University in 2004 and then a M.S. in Foresight (aka “Future Studies”) from the University of Houston in 2020.  He passed his CFP® exam in 2000 and has been a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional since 2002. He was also awarded his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter in 2011 after completing the three year curriculum. He has always been committed to continued learning as evidenced by his accomplishments as a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA), Certified Fund Specialist (CFS), Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA), Certified Foundation Fiduciary Specialist (CFFS), Accredited Investment Fiduciary Analyst™ (AIFA) and Accredited Estate Planner (AEP). He is an active member of the CFA Society of Dallas, Financial Planning Association and Dallas Estate Planning Council.
